Chiroptera Press proudly presents Runes and Relics by Wade German.
Wade German is a consummate master of contemporary weird poetry. His work, situated firmly in the supernatural horror and fantasy traditions, exhibits a distinct imaginative alchemy, informed by the aesthetics of dark Romanticism, Decadence, and the Weird Tradition to synthesize unique amalgams and distillates of the dark fantastic.
German’s verses are infused with a potent and idiosyncratic imagination. He is an expert weaver of strange atmospheres, conjuring poetic spaces which allow for the exploration of hallucinatory terrains and vividly horrific vistas. Even when deploying classic tropes, his original conceptions offer new delights and terrors of the unknown. While primarily known for his technical virtuosity in formal verse, German’s occasional forays into freer, more experimental verse forms also maintain an emphasis on the macabre and otherworldly.
Runes and Relics contains a selection of German’s most recent poems, several exemplary specimens of earlier work, and also a sampler of his lesser known surrealist poems, which have been described as “phenomena emergent from the shadow-filled intersections of the gothic, expressionism, and dream logic.” This new collection is testament to the power and originality of his verse.
Wade German is the author of several poetry collections, including Psalms and Sorceries, Dreams from a Black Nebula, and several slim volumes of selected poems with Portuguese translation, most recently the chapbook Noctivagations. His work has appeared widely in speculative magazines, journals, and anthologies, receiving widespread recognition and many nominations for poetry awards. He currently lives in British Columbia, Canada.
